    What exactly does Group Personal Accident Insurance cover?

    The Group Personal Accident policy covers injuries to the insured personnel as a result of an accident. Various benefits can be added to include illness cover upon application of the policy. Benefits are based on either earnings or fixed amounts and are payable to the insured, i.e. the employer, not the employee. The employer can then choose to distribute the amount payable in the event of a claim.

    Death

    If there are no dependants involved, the death benefit could be used to cover retraining or recruitment; however, where there are dependants, the employer will be in a position to choose to pay a percentage to the family and use the balance for business costs incurred.

    Permanent disability

    Should the employee suffer a permanent disability as a result of the injury, the benefit could be used to cover the costs of a prosthetic device – if needed – or for rehabilitation depending upon the degree of disability.

    Temporary total disability

    In the event that the insured employee is temporarily disabled and can’t fulfil their job duties, the employer can claim the earnings that he has paid to the employee.

    Medical expenses

    The medical expenses benefit will reimburse the insured for any medical costs incurred as a result of the accident, including emergency transport.
